SELF FINANCING COURSE IN COMPUTER APPLICATIONS

A computer-training course (SELF FINANCING) is held within college campus for all students,
in collaboration with WEBEL Informatics Ltd. (Under Dept of Information Technology, Govt. of West Bengal)
 

The course has been subjected to regular review to suit the requirements of the students. Separate syllabi for the humanities, the bioscience and the pure science disciplines have been framed, each to be taught over a period of two years. A nominal course fee of Rs 750/- per annum is charged per student .

The certificates awarded on successful completion of the course are jointly issued by the Principal of the college and Webel Informatics Ltd. (A Govt. of West Bengal undertaking) under the Department of 'Information & Technology', Govt. of West Bengal

The motivation behind running this course is to give students proper grounding in the versatile use of computers against minimum effort and expense .For ‘Humanities’ students the course enhances skills for further career advancement in the field of creativity widening future career options. For ‘Science’ students the course is preparatory for portions of degree syllabi involving computer programming.

Application in Physics

 

Applications are invited from eligible candidates to work as Junior Research Fellow in the Project entitled “Theoretical studies on nonlinearity and dynamical instability of (driven) Bose-Einstein condensate and exploration of suitable control mechanisms“ funded by the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE) and Board of Research in Nuclear Sciences (BRNS), Government of India, under the supervision of Dr. Barnali Chakrabarti, Department of Physics, Lady Brabourne College. The project is to be implemented soon and the tenure of the Project is three years initially.
 

Candidates should have uniformly good academic career with M.Sc. in Physics from a recognized University with at least 55% marks in both B.Sc. and M.Sc. examinations. NET qualification is desirable. However any candidate having the knowledge about BEC will be preferred. Upper age limit as on 01-04-2010 is 35 years, relaxable upto 5 years in case of SC/ST/woman candidates.
 

The fellowship amount is Rs. 12000/- + HRA + MA for the first two years and Rs. 14000/- + HRA + MA for the third year.  The fellowship will co-terminate with the project.
 

Two separate sets of complete applications furnishing biodata on plain paper with attested copies of testimonials should reach the office of the Principal, Lady Brabourne College on or before 1st April 2010. Applicants should mention the title of the project on top of the application.

The Department of Chemistry, Lady Brabourne College, Kolkata, organized a two-day UGC sponsored National Level Seminar on ‘EMERGING CONCERNS & ADVANCES IN CHEMISTRY’ in collaboration with The Indian Chemical Society on the 4th & 5th February, 2010.  The seminar was inaugurated by the Principal, Dr. Sanghamitra Mukherjee, Professor Dhrubajyoti Chattopadhyay, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic), Calcutta University and Professor P. L. Majumdar, Honorary Secretary, Indian Chemical Society.  Eminent teachers and scientists of different Institutes and Universities from inside and outside West Bengal spoke on various aspects of Chemistry stressing particularly on the emerging concern of environmental pollution.  Teachers from different colleges and research scholars presented papers and / or posters.  The seminar was highly successful and well attended with about two hundred participants including more than a hundred students from different Colleges and Universities.  The students were immensely benefited from the deliberations of the speakers.

Women's studies centre was approved by the UGC in July, 2009.  The College received the official intimation in early February, 2010.  The college is therefore very anxious to begin the centre as soon as possible.

Inauguration of the centre is slated for the 8th of March, 2010
